Our team lives and works in the communities we build for. Backing local sport, investing in the trades, and showing up for the people who need it most is a natural part of who we are – a publicly owned business with roots in Canterbury’s electricity supply going back to 1903.
Football is the world's game and the diversity on the pitch is a direct reflection of the communities we're part of. Our partnership with Mainland Football backs grassroots football across the region, including the Connetics Schools Girls and Boys Premier Competition, connecting cultures and keeping people active across Waitaha / Canterbury.
Our partnership with Canterbury Hockey goes beyond the sideline. Alongside backing regional competition, we open our doors to under-18 players for work experience days – giving young athletes a look at the career paths available in infrastructure, from engineering through to the trades. We also show up at Hockey Finals to hand over the Connetics Cup, and our people show up as fans of the game throughout the season.
We actively invest in the future of the infrastructure trades. By backing Annual Connections, we celebrate the skill and craft of line mechanics, cable jointers, and the crews who do the physical work – and help secure the next generation of people who'll keep building what Aotearoa needs.
Our Northern crew, led by Rowland Bartlett, volunteers at the Wellington Special Children's Christmas Party each year. We work in people's streets and behind their fences every day – to do that well, we need to be trusted as neighbours. Last year, tamariki got to choose from over 6,000 brand-new toys in an environment where parents said their children felt properly welcomed, accepted, and celebrated.
See what our team has been up to across the communities we work in.
We’re backing GirlBoss New Zealand’s Edge: Sustainability career accelerator – a free 10-day programme for high school students who want a career that makes a real difference. Alongside Orion, MainPower, Omexom, Vector, Waipa Networks, and Counties Energy, we sponsor the programme and step up as mentors, showing young wāhine what a career in infrastructure actually looks like.
We’re always open to partnerships that make a real difference in the communities we work in. If your organisation has an idea, a cause, or a programme you think we should be part of – we’d like to hear about it.
