The way we do business

We build the infrastructure that communities across Aotearoa depend on – and we live in those same communities. Looking after the environment we work in as kaitiaki is part of how we operate, and part of powering a cleaner, brighter future for the people we serve.

Our five principles

These five principles guide how we think about environmental and social responsibility across the business. They run through everything we do – from how we source materials through to how we show up in the communities we work in.

Protect our planet
Act as kaitiaki of the environment by reducing the impact of our operations, and where we can, take opportunities to look after and improve the natural world around us.

Partner with our people and communities
Work alongside our communities and our people, making sure our business practices genuinely reflect their needs and what matters to them.

Prosperity through responsible long-term decision making
Use resources thoughtfully, invest in ways that last, and make decisions today that support a resilient energy future for the long run.

Pledge to Te Tiriti
Uphold the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the principles of reciprocity, active protection, partnership, equity, and equal treatment.

Purposeful ethics and integrity
Hold ourselves to high ethical standards across our supply chain and workforce – sourcing responsibly, respecting human rights, and making sure working conditions are fair, safe, and respectful throughout our business.

Ethical supply chains

New Zealand doesn’t yet require companies to report on modern slavery. We’ve chosen to anyway. Respecting human rights across our operations and supply chains is part of how we work, and putting it in writing keeps us accountable to it.

Our Modern Slavery Statement sets out the risks we look for, the checks we make on suppliers, and how anyone can raise a concern. It’s approved by our Senior Leadership Team and reviewed every year.

Carbon reduction initiatives

We’re committed to reducing our scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by FY30 and 40% by FY35. That covers all Connetics depots, project sites, and company vehicles. Our higher scope 3 ambitions sit at group level, with our parent company Orion.

We’ve partnered with OrbViz to show our FY26 carbon footprint. We measure everything we can collect accurate data for, and we publish our emissions publicly through OrbViz once they’ve been through a group-level audit.

Environmental standards and commitments

The frameworks, certifications, and partnerships that hold us accountable.

ISO 14001
Environmental Management Systems certification – the international standard for managing our environmental impact.

GHG Protocol
We measure our emissions using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, covering scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 sources.

Fair Supply
Ethical sourcing and modern slavery preparedness across our supply chain, making sure the materials we buy are sourced responsibly.

OrbViz
We publish our emissions data and carbon reduction progress publicly through our partnership with OrbViz – so anyone can see where we’re at.
