Network planning & feasibility

Before any design work starts, the network needs to be understood. Our engineers deliver load forecasting, capacity assessments, and options analysis to support growth, electrification, and investment decisions – giving you a clear picture of what your network needs before the project takes shape. Whether you’re planning for a new subdivision, an industrial expansion, or long-term demand growth, the planning stage is where the right decisions get made.

Reticulation & distribution design

We design overhead and underground distribution networks from EDB extensions and sub-transmission upgrades through to subdivision reticulation, commercial developments, and privately owned HV networks. Every design is sized for where your network needs to be, not just where it is today – accounting for electrification, load growth, and staged development. With one team working across the full voltage range, nothing gets designed in isolation.

Substation & protection design

Our engineers plan substations from 11kV through to 110kV – covering transformer sizing, switchgear integration, layout optimisation, and intelligent protection schemes. We design both conventional and IEC 61850-compliant digital substation architectures, including process bus, Merging Units, GOOSE messaging, digital I/O, and SCADA / automation systems. Our commissioning teams were among the first in New Zealand to deliver in-field IEC 61850 GOOSE and Sampled Value testing – so the digital architectures we design are proven in the field, not just on paper.

Renewable & embedded generation

Connecting solar, wind, battery storage, or microgrid assets to the grid starts with getting the connection design right. Our engineers work through feasibility assessments, system impact studies, and connection applications to make sure your project meets the host network’s requirements. We design the protection schemes, switchgear layouts, and cable routes around your generation asset so the connection satisfies the network operator the first time.

Lighting & smart city design

Our designers deliver full photometric modelling using AGi32 and Dialux – lux levels, uniformity, and spill control proven before anything gets built. We cover luminaire selection, LED retrofit specification, and detailed layouts for road corridors, public spaces, sports venues, and industrial sites. Because our lighting designers sit within the same team planning your electrical infrastructure, the lighting scope is designed alongside your reticulation from day one.
